The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Emmanuel Kofi Nti has revealed that he pays not less than Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc10, 000) every month in taxes.
Mr. Kofi Nti who was speaking during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop for members of Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) in the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua lauded the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative introduced by Government, saying it will lead to an increase in the payment of taxes in future.
He said “The President has enabled us to have a Free SHS. I was privileged as a young student to have this CMB scholarship and it allowed me to go to secondary school alongside my elder brother. But for the CMB Schorlarship I would have been delayed. Now I pay tax not less than Ghc10, 000 a month. The Free SHS will lead to a situation where the youth will be paying more taxes in their future. So it is like investment that is being made to collect more taxes later,”
Under the theme: “Bringing the Informal Sector into the Tax Net-The Role of the Media”, the workshop was aimed at training members of the Association on various issues emerging in the tax front and the challenges therein.
It also sought to help disseminate information with the view to promote a change in attitude of Ghanaians with regards to payment of taxes.
