Heads of SHS in Volta region applaud government and Zoomlion for fumigation

Heads of various Senior High Schools in the Volta Region have expressed appreciation to the government and waste management experts Zoomlion for the fumigation of their schools against bedbugs and other harmful insects which have been worrying their students.

The heads of the SHS who spoke in the premises of their schools during the fumigation exercise which has kick-started in the Volta Region believe the exercise will go a long way to help the students concentrate in class.

At the Tsito Senior High Technical School, the headmaster Victor Abotsi disclosed that the intervention from government has taken a huge financial burden off their shoulders as the school often spends over Six Thousand cedis each semester to fumigate the school in order to make it habitable for the students.

He said, “this exercise is timely as we spend so much trying to do our own fumigation with the help of the parents. So this will spare us the headache of spending our already scarce resources to fumigate the school each semester”.

The Assistant Headmistress of the Kpeve Senior High School on her part  claimed, ” each semester we ask the students to come with inesfly to help fumigate the school but this is often not enough as it is inadequate to do what is required. In this regard we are grateful to the government and the people doing the work that is Zoomlion for the initiative. We however hope it is done regularly to help the students”.

The story was the same in most of the 98 schools the exercise is covering as the heads were full of joy for the initiative by the ministry of education and the Ghana Education Service.

They were unanimous in their call for the exercise to be regularized to help the schools eliminate the bedbug menace in the country.

The Senior High School bedbug fumigation and disinfection exercise is an initiative of the ministry of education which is expected to cover all public and private Senior high schools in the country . So far the exercise has reached the Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Western North, Volta, Bono East, Bono as well as the Ahafo regions of the country.
