Gov’t to introduce Planting for Export & Rural Development initiative, Akufo-Addo to perform launch on April 23

Government is coming with a new intinative dubbed Plating for Export and Rural Development (PERD) and president Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo is due to officially launch this initiative on April 23, 2019 in the Central Region.

The initiative according to BestNewsGH.com sources is a deliberate programme under the Ministries of Food and Agriculture and Local Government and Rural Development.

The cardinal objective is to help develop rural economies through the planting and exportation of six tree crops including oil palm, mango, coconut, coffee and cashew.

The Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto in an inter with Dailyguidenetwork online opined that the initiative is to complement the already existing planting for food and jobs programme which has in no small measure within this short period of its existence contributed to addressing the issue of food security in the country.

The launching ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 23, 2019, at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College Park, Dunkwa – On – Offin, Central Region under the theme “Export Diversification as a Tool for Development.”
