Free SHS: 351,022 placed; 38,355 disqualified

The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for senior high schools (SHS) has placed 351,022 students for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The students have been placed in 721 public and private senior high schools across the country.

The figure represents 74.01% of the total 473,728 qualified candidates who were due for placement for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Data shows that 83,053 slots are available for the single track while 138,053 students will be placed on the Green track, with 129,916 going for the Gold track.

473,728 Qualify for Free SHS

According to the Ghana Education Service (GES), the total number of candidates who qualified for placement were 473,728.

38,355 Did not qualify for SHS

Out of the 512,083 students whose BECE results were released to GES, 38,355 were considered disqualified.

122,706 shifted to the self-placement category

Of the 473,728, candidates, 122,706, representing 25.09% of candidates, failed to secure automatic placement, and have, therefore, been shifted to the self-placement category.

131,146 Vacancies available for self-placement

However, the vacancies available for self-placement are 131,146.

The self-placement category is for students who failed to secure places in their selected schools and will now be given new slots in schools with available space.

These students, for various reasons, could not be placed in any of their schools of choice.

According to the GES, the system for self-placement should have been ready by close of day yesterday.

275,966 Candidates from public JHS

The GES further clarified that 275,966 candidates came from public junior high schools.

92,404 Candidates from public JHS

According to the information, 92,404 candidates came from private junior high schools from a total of 16,926 junior high schools.

652 Private candidates placed

There were also 652 private candidates placed.

A further breakdown indicates that there were 721 secondary schools available to receive the candidates, with 521,298 places available to be filled.

Form Three students in school

The 2019/2020 academic year has begun with the return to school of students in Form Three.

Form One – Green Track reopens school on September 15

The first year (Form One – Green Track) students are expected to reopen school on September 15.

Form One – Gold Track reopens school on November 12

On the other hand, those on the Gold Track will reopen on November 12, 2019.

Form 2 Gold students reopen school on October 15

Form Two Gold students will reopen school on October 15

Form 2 Green Track reopens school on September 15

Students on the Green Track will be expected to return to school on September 15, 2019.

Call centre

GES has established a call centre to resolve issues arising from placement, and the centre can be reached on 030-700-7777 for redress.

Pin Code vendors

Face Dynamic Ventures, Ghana Post Company Limited, Swift Africa Logistics Limited, ARB Apex Bank Limited and Medollo and Gem Limited are the five authorised Pin Code vendors.
