A farmer who has been arrested at Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region for impregnating his step daughter has committed suicide by hanging in police cell.
42 year old Yaw Tawiah, according to BestNewGH.com sources, committed the unfortunate act in the toilet of the police cell using a piece of blanket he tore from what was given to him to keep him warm.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lawreence Adombire, the Asunafo South District Police Commander, confirming the incident to Angel Fm in Kumasi explained that the suspect was due to be arraigned in court today, Wednesday, January 8, 2020, after he had been remanded.
ASP Lawrence Adombire said “He was arrested one week ago on suspicion that he had impregnated his stepdaughter; he was sent to court on 3rd January, 2020 and he was remanded and was due to reappear on Wednesday; but he hanged himself on Sunday dawn”.
He added that “The officer at the charge office only went to find him hanging when he called him several times without any response; his wife and the assemblyman in his town was called to see the body before he was untied”.
The police, after depositing the body at the Goaso Hospital Morgue, say they are commencing investigations into the matter.
