Ahead of the siting of regional capitals for the 6 newly created regions, the Minister for Regional reorganization, Dan Kweku Botwe is urging calm from the various interest groups, to allow for the best decisions to be arrived at.

According to him, the Ministry is having the benefit of hindsight with the creation of new districts and the attendant fight for the siting of the district capitals and is cautious not to elicit any such brouhaha in the siting of the regional capitals for the 6 newly created regions.

‘’I want to urge the chiefs and traditional leaders in the various regions to exercise the same goodwill, calmness, Cooperation and maturity they exhibited during the lead up to the referendum to apply the same traits when the regional capitals are being allocated’’ he said on Accra based Peace Fm and Monitored by BestNewsGH.com

Mr. Botwe who is also the ruling New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region said even though the regional capital will be sited in one location, the development of the region would be spread throughout all parts of the region, adding that what matters is the development and not the where the regional capital is sited.

‘’We will begin deliberating on that very soon and we expect the full cooperation of the chiefs and traditional leaders in this regard. You recall that 20 million Ghana Cedis each has been earmarked for the newly created regions in the budget and so I want them to think along the lines of the development that will come and not the siting of the regional capital’’ he said.
