A Flagbearer hopeful of People’s National Convention (PNC), Samson Asaki Awingobit, on Friday the 10th of April 2020, distributed food items to hundreds of residents in and around Zenu, a surbub of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, as the COVID-19 lockdown continues.
The donation which was nearly marred by the huge turnout of residents who threw caution to the wind to observe the social distancing directive, saw residents mainly the aged and the less privilege going home with bags of Rice, Beans, Gari and Millet.
The donation, forms part of an initiative undertaken by Mr Asaki Awingobit to support government’s social intervention program aimed at ameliorating the suffereing brought upon the masses by the COVID-19 lockdown.
BestNewsGH.com reports Mr. Asaki as telling the media after the donation that he was motivated by the support from corporate agencies towards augmenting government’s effort in helping the vulnerable within this period.
He said the donation will continue in the coming days, due to the unanticipated turnout, which shows clearly that the masses are in dire need of such support.
He called on government and private entities supporting the masses amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, to rather give out dry food in replacement of the hot meals, since one cannot guarantee the conditions under which these hot foods are cooked.
