The Newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono has excited the workforce of the Authority, after delivering a powerful morale-boosting message at his maiden durbar with staff.
The durbar which took place at the Marine Block in the Port of Tema on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, saw the new Director-General outline his vision for the Authority, promising to hinge his leadership and tenure on discipline, fairness and teamwork.
He opined that he would operate an open-door policy, and that staff are free to come and share challenges, which if when addressed, will inure to the benefit of the Authority. He said “My office is open 24hrs. Notwithstanding if the issue you are coming to discuss has to go through formal procedures, then that has to be done. Unless it is absolutely necessary. Let us be disciplined by being punctual at work and lead by example. If you are on time we will be the best of friends.”

On promotions in the Authority, Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono assured the staff that there will be no by-passing policy and that promotions will strictly and purely be based on merit, except in extremely extra-ordinary situations. He averred that he will resort to the appraisal reports of the various departmental heads to effect promotions. He opined “I will treat each and everyone here fairly. When it is about promotion you all know the rules and the rules must be applied. There will be no by-passing policy here. So, unless of course, we all agree one individual is so outstanding that in order to serve as an example for others to emulate he or she gets the promotion ahead of regular schedule. This means that we are going to depend on your appraisal reports. That means that if you are punctual, disciplined and hardworking, it will all be reflected in your appraisal report. When it comes to training opportunities, it will also be done fairly.”
BestNewsGH.com can report that Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono who received massive and loud applause from the staff, was resolute in his conviction that hardwork should be rewarded, explaining that he believes in the principle of work and happiness. He underscored the importance of teamwork, adding that backdoor gossips will not be tolerated. “I also believe in work and happiness, so if we all agree to work very hard and our output goes up, naturally we should be rewarded for hardwork. The same way if we decide not to work hard and our output is low, by logic, the reward will be reduced. So let us work hard, so we can increase the revenue for the government and for this institution so that we can all be rewarded.” he pointed out.
On work output, he noted that “I also believe in timelines. Any work I give you has to be ready for a given time – I will not remind you.”
He impressed upon the staff to cooperate with him to work at realizing the vision of President John Dramani Mahama of resetting Ghana.
The outgoing Director-General of GPHA, Mr. Michael Achagwe Luguje on his part, thank the staff for the support and cooperation they accorded him during his tenure and extolled them to even double their support for the new Director-General.
