Minister for roads and highways, Kwasi Amoako Attah has indicated that 6 contractors have been contracted to work on all the 6 footbridges along the Adenta stretch, saying time is of the essence.
According the Minister, each contractor will work on one footbridge in order to fast track the completion within 3 to 4 months.
‘’Six different contractors are going to work on these bridges and each contractor will tackle one footbridge because time is of the essence now and like I said, within three months, maximum four months by end of February, all these footbridges will be in place and after that we will do whatever is expected to be done’’ the minister said.
According to him, once the bridges are in place, there will be the need for some amount of intensive education and sensitization in order that all road users would adhere to the rules of engagement on how to avoid accidents on the stretch.
Violent reactions from residents within Adenta and Madina in the Greater Accra Region broke out after a speeding vehicle knocked down and killed a female senior high school student.
The rampage was in protest against government’s seeming disinterest to get the particular footbridge on the Adenta stretch fixed even after several calls and pleas.
Their action seem to have yielded some positive results as government moved in swiftly and announced work to be begin on the footbridges this week.
