The National Identification Authority says it is waiting for the Judicial Service to finish training some newly recruited commissioners of oaths before they begin the mass registration of Ghanaians next month.
The Authority’s spokesman, Francis Palm Deti says the in the inability of the Authority to meet the timelines for the commencement of the mass registration has to do primarily with then non-availability of commissioners of oath, which necessitated the directive to the judicial service to recruit and train some 27 thousand of them to be deployed across the country for the exercise.
‘’We want to do a thorough job and that demands that we wait for the commissioners of oath because all issues about people’s illegibility and all that will be addressed by them and so if we don’t wait for them, the tendency that many people will not be registered is very high’’ he said on an Accra based radio station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com.
According to him, the Authority also wants to help eliminate the situation in which people who want to register will have to travel long distances to look for commissioners of oaths to clear them before they return for the actual exercise, saying the inconvenience is what they want to quell.
Mr. Palm Deti said the current system being used in the exercise is an upgraded version of what they used previously and called on all those who registered previously to come back and upgrade their cards too.
According to him about 80 thousand registrations have been done already, of various groups including members of the executive, selected institutions and government agencies, adding that another 100 institutions would be covered in the time being, before the mass registration begins next month.
