Wassa East local economy has been boosted with the construction of a 20 million dollar state of the art oil palm processing factory which is expected to be completed by the scheduled time of July 2019.
Construction workers mostly local people from the community are being led by Malaysians and Indonesians with the civil works exclusively relying on local labour and technical expertise.
The MD of Plantation SOCFINAF revealed that the over 6,000 hectares of oil palm plantation would not be enough to feed the factory.
According to him, 10 thousand nursed seedlings are ready for local farmers interested in planting them to sell their produce, which will be the main raw material for production to the new factory.
He explained that their specie of Oil palm is superior in yield and oil content and will ensure quality products are produced.
The District Chief Executive for Wassa East, Wilson Arthur led the District management team made up of the District Agricultural officer, the district Planning officer, Works directorate and the Coordinating Director to tour the new factory site.
