Boarding schools in the country are expected to receive a chunk of their food supply before the commencement of the 2019/2020 Academic Year.
Chief Executive Officer of National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab who announced this today in Takoradi in the Western Region explained the measure is to ensure an impediment-free semester in conformity with practices and procedures since 2017 when the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme started.
He was addressing the 57th Annual Conference of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) currently underway in the Western Regional Capital.
It is on the theme ” Achieving sustainable quality education in Ghana; the role of stakeholders” and will discuss wide-range of issues pertaining to the education sector in general and the high school level in particular.
Mr. Abdul-Wahab told the conference his outfit was very much challenges ahead of the commencement of the new academic year and has put in place adequate measures to address them.
“As the Free SHS program enters its third year in September 2019, National Food Buffer Stock Company is very much aware of the critical issues that need to be addressed. NAFCO is aware that there will be no fee-paying student come September, as every student in all the three-year batches will be benefitting under the Free SHS program”, he reiterated.
NAFCO donated an amount of GHC 10,000 to support the organization of this year’s CHASS Conference as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities.
NAFCO is the state designated supplier of food to Senior High Schools under the Free Senior High School Program since it took off in 2017.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh is expected to address the conference.
The week-long conference is being hosted by Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School.
