The race for who takes over from Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Alhaji Habib Tijani as Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency has started in earnest with two persons already picking forms to contest in the primaries scheduled for April.

One of the two individuals who has already picked forms is media owner Alhaji Baba Osman Danney and is seen as the favourite to succeed incumbent MP Alhaji Tijani who has decided not to contest again.

Alhaji Danney who was accompanied by big wigs of the NPP in the Yendi constituency to pick his forms on Thursday is promising to ensure every child is given an equal opportunity to excel in whatever field they choose for themselves.

Some delegates who accompanied the aspirant to pick his nomination forms could not hide their admiration for him and declared their unalloyed support for him.

One of the delegates who gave his name as Abu told BestNewsGH.com that, “Alhaji Baba has been with us from day one and he knows the problems of the party more than any other aspirant. When the party went to opposition in 2009 and people were afraid to support the party, he was there with us till we won power and he still supports us”.

Another delegate told BestNewsGH.com, “if you are an aspirant and you don’t have party leaders supporting your campaign, then you are not grounded in the party. As you can see our former chairman who wrestled the seat from the NDC after the 2008 loss and some chiefs who are party loyalists are here with us. This shows that Alhaji Baba is the best person for us”.

The other candidate who has also picked his nomination forms is Farouk Aliu Mahama who is the son of late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama. Another person expected to pick nomination forms is Deputy CEO for Micro And Small Loans Center(MASLOC) Hajia Abibata Shanni who grapevine sources say will pick her forms next week.
