The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a warning to all heads of tertiary institutions and the public against engaging with 50 foreign tertiary institutions that are not recognised by the Commission due to accreditation and quality assurance breaches.

In a statement issued by the Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, GTEC cautioned that these institutions have not met the required standards to operate or award academic qualifications recognised in Ghana.

“We hope you treat this caution with the seriousness that it deserves in your dealings with them,” the statement read.

The announcement follows recent directives from GTEC to individuals, including some with political and academic backgrounds, to desist from using the title “Dr.” unless they can provide proof of earning it from an accredited and recognised tertiary institution.
