Mahama pledges to enhance Free SHS, says it has come to stay

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has affirmed his commitment to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and promised to improve it if he’s re-elected as president in the upcoming elections. 

He emphasised that the Free SHS policy is crucial in providing equal educational opportunities for all Ghanaians.

The former President also highlighted the significance of the Free SHS policy in supporting the most vulnerable in society. He acknowledged its role in leveling the playing field for students from various backgrounds.

Mr Mahama stressed that he could not consider canceling a policy that benefits so many, particularly those who are most in need.

According to him, he is committed to enhancing and sustaining the programme for the betterment of all Ghanaians.

“The Free SHS policy has come to stay, and I am committed to improving it,” he said while addressing journalists in Accra on Sunday, July 7.

He reiterated that he is not against the policy and emphasised that he supports it, but wants it improved to address current challenges.

Regarding the Free SHS Bill yet to be laid before Parliament, Mr Mahama stated he would support it if it aims to enhance and sustain the policy.
