Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, the Director of Legal Education and head of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), has announced that his tenure will officially end on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

In a message to students on Tuesday, August 12, Justice Oppong expressed gratitude to God for “love, guidance, and protection” during his three years in office.

While he had hoped to complete his full term and preside over the upcoming Call to the Bar ceremony, he noted that “sadly that was not to be.”

He wished Part II students success in their October Call to the Bar and encouraged Part I students to remain focused to advance in their legal studies. He further urged the student body to extend “even greater respect, cooperation, and support” to his successor and the GSL’s management team.

Justice Oppong assumed office on April 1, 2022, following the retirement of Mr. Kwasi Prempeh-Eck.

A former senior lecturer at the school, he is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana and a Barrister-at-Law with more than 22 years of practice, specialising in Energy and Natural Resource Law, as well as Banking and Finance Law.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London) and the Managing Partner of Ampofo, Oppong, and Associates in Accra.

Installed as Mawerehene of Akyem Abuakwa, Justice Oppong is also a prolific legal author, with works including Contemporary Trends in the Law of Immovable Property in Ghana and scholarly articles such as Domesticating Dispute Resolution Arising from Petroleum Agreements in Ghana.

Holding an LLB from the University of Ghana, a Barrister-at-Law certificate from GSL, and an LLM in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Ghana, Justice Oppong has built a career blending legal practice, academia, traditional leadership, and farming — giving him a unique perspective on the intersection of customary law and modern development.
