The Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, has revealed that the government has launched an investigation into the recruitment of approximately 12,000 individuals into the public sector by the former Akufo-Addo administration in the aftermath of the 2024 general elections.

According to Mr Pelpuo, the mass recruitment occurred within just a week or two after the then-government lost the elections, prompting concerns about the legitimacy and motivation behind the appointments.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV, Mr Pelpuo said President John Dramani Mahama had established a committee to look into the matter, especially in light of complaints about unfair dismissals of some newly employed individuals.

“The President has set up a committee to investigate all the people who are complaining of being sacked unfairly. I’m a co-chairman of that committee. We’re working very hard to get them a response,” Mr Pelpuo stated.

He continued: “In that space of time, after they lost the 2024 elections, they [Akufo-Addo administration] employed 12,000 people within a week or two in all sectors. We’re now investigating it, and our results will come out soon.”

The committee’s work involves examining the timing, processes, and possible political motivations behind the late-term appointments. The findings are expected to determine whether due process was followed and whether corrective measures are warranted.

Mr Pelpuo reaffirmed the current government’s commitment to transparency and meritocracy in public service recruitment, noting that the committee’s recommendations would shape future decisions on the contested appointments.
