Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has criticised the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, for what he described as a tendency to “prosecute cases in the media” rather than through due judicial process.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, 16 June, Mr Mohammed expressed concern over the public disclosures made by the Attorney General’s office in recent high-profile cases, particularly involving former public officials.

“Go to court and stop prosecuting your cases in the media,” Mr Mohammed asserted.

He warned that the public airing of sensitive allegations risks prejudicing legal outcomes and undermining the presumption of innocence.

“If you have a case, take it to the courts where the facts can be tested,” he added, calling for a return to what he described as “responsible, impartial legal practice”.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem Sai has defended the current prosecutorial approach, saying that the Attorney General’s actions are guided solely by the law.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Dr Srem Sai stressed that Dr Ayine “will not trade anything for the position of the law” and will not yield to political or public pressure in the administration of justice.

Dr Srem Sai also shared that he fully understood the gravity of the role when he accepted the appointment, noting the expectations of Ghanaians.

“I felt the weight of expectation of Ghanaians upon my appointment,” he said. “But one thing that made me happy about this was my boss.” He praised Dr Ayine as a principled legal mind committed to due process and national accountability.
