The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The governing party described her as a remarkable woman whose impact on Ghana’s social and political history will never fade.
In a statement released by the party, the NDC hailed Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings as a trailblazer for women’s empowerment, whose leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless Ghanaian women and children.
“Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong commitment to the empowerment of women and children has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history,” the party said.
The statement noted that as one of the founding pillars of the NDC, she played a critical role in shaping the party’s ideals and identity. Even though political circumstances later saw her establish another party, the NDC said her place in its story remains deeply significant.
Recalling a symbolic moment earlier this year, the party revealed that on June 22, 2025, declared as one of the NDC’s anniversaries, a public declaration was made for Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings to be restored to her rightful place as the Founding Mother of the NDC.
“That acknowledgement, made while she was still with us, reaffirmed that the NDC has always held her legacy in respect and gratitude,” the statement emphasised.
On behalf of the party, the NDC extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family, especially her children and loved ones, praying for comfort and strength during this period of loss.
“May the soul of Mrs Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
