The Black Stars blew their chance to extend their lead in Group I of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after drawing with Chad.

Ghana, having led in the opening half of the game, failed to snatch all three points as Chad equalised in the closing minutes of the encounter.

The Black Stars came into the game on the back of four consecutive wins in the qualifying series and were hoping to make it five in a row.

Otto Addo’s side took the lead in the 12th minute through Jordan Ayew, who was on the finishing end of Mohammed Kudus’ cross-square pass from the byline.

Having taken the lead, the Black Stars were unable to get hold of the game, as they were on the back foot on many occasions.

The team had chances to see the game out but could not find their scoring boots.

Antoine Semenyo had a couple of opportunities, including a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but skied his effort.

Mohammed Kudus produced an absolute curler that went just inches wide of the top corner.

Ghana were made to pay for their wastefulness when Celestine Ecua was virtually allowed to run through midfield to the edge of the 18-yard box, where his strike took a deflection off Caleb Yirenkyi and into the back of the net in the 90th minute.

The goal secured Chad’s first point of the qualifiers after six successive defeats, and it came in their first home match hosted in the country in six years.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars take on Mali on September 8, aiming to return to winning ways.
