Security officials have arrested a man believed to be Francis Asante, alias Swanzy—also known as Nana Kwasi among his close associates—who claimed to be the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Delta Force vigilante group.

His arrest comes in the wake of a disturbing viral video, in which he was seen wearing military camouflage and issuing violent threats ahead of the upcoming Akwatia Parliamentary By-election.

In the footage, Swanzy warned that he and his group would “strike,” going as far as to say that a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be killed during the polls.

According to deep-throat sources within national security, Asante was apprehended at a hideout in Barekese, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region, on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2025.

He claimed in the video that his threats were in retaliation for what he described as the NPP’s betrayal of Delta Force members—whom he alleged were used to secure the party’s 2016 electoral victory and later abandoned.

Officials say the arrest was carried out as a precautionary step to ensure calm and protect lives and property before, during, and after the by-election.

As of 10:00 p.m. Friday, preparations were underway to transfer him to Accra for formal processing and possible prosecution.
