The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has strongly condemned the illegal removal of reinforcements from the retaining wall at the Tantra Hill underpass on the Achimota-Ofankor stretch of the N6 highway.

In a public announcement issued on May 14, 2025, the GHA, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, responded to a viral video posted by the Buzzstopboys that showed exposed steel reinforcements at the site.

The Authority revealed that an earlier engineering assessment had identified localised spalling on the wall, which exposed the rebars and attracted theft by unscrupulous individuals.

The GHA assured the public that despite the damage, the underpass remains structurally sound and safe.

It added that repair works will be undertaken soon to prevent further deterioration.

The Authority warned that tampering with public infrastructure is a criminal offence under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the GHA’s Public Affairs Division.

“We must protect our roads together,” the statement emphasised.
