The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has reiterated its commitment at effectively collaborating with stakeholders in the shipping industry to continue to champion the interest of Shippers in the country.
This aside, the Authority says it is also committed to facilitating trade in the country while ensuring that the cost of doing business is reduced to the barest minimum.
The Tema Branch Manager of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Mrs. Monica Josiah at a recent encounter with the media in Tema averred that ‘’The GSA per its Mission to effectively and efficiently protect and promote the interests of importers and exporters in Ghana’s commercial shipping sector in relation to international trade and transport logistic, is fully committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to improve the Ghana’s shipping space and generally facilitate trade.’’
Mrs. Josiah underscored the important role the shipping industry plays in the economy of the country saying ‘’ as we are all aware, shipping is a very important economic activity that contributes significantly to Ghana’s GDP. Thus any challenge that affect the industry adversely affects our economy and no doubt erodes the competitiveness of Ghana’s import and export trade on the global market.’’
She described the media as a very crucial ally in economic development and that the Authority considers the media as partners, having recognised the important role of the media.
She opined that ‘’you would all agree that the critical role of the media in the economic development of any country cannot be questioned. I wish to indicate that the GSA has long recognised this role and considers the media as partners whose agenda of national and economic development converges with that of the GSA in the pursuit of its core mandate of protecting and promoting the interests of importers and exporters in Ghana.’’
Mrs. Josiah added that the GSA will continue to harness its relationship with the media to ensure that importers and exporters across Ghana are empowered through dissemination of shipping related information.
The Head of Public Relations at GSA, Mr. Fred Atogiyire on his part lauded the long standing relationship between the Authority and the Media.
He said it is the plan of the Authority to intermittently engage the media so as to elicit feedback from them and to know what the media expects of them.
Mr. Atogiyire assured that the Authority will continue to nurture its relationship with the Media for the overall benefit of the Ghanaian shipper.
