Court slaps ICGC with Gh¢ 30,000 fine for noise pollution

An Accra High Court has slapped two churches with a huge fine for the offense of noise pollution.

The churches include Dr Mensa Otabil’s ICGC and Cross Road Community Church, both in Hatso.

One Mrs Patricia Bannerman and Dr Elizabeth Masopeh filed a court case against the above stated churches for causing public nuisance and noise pollution.

The court presided by Her Ladyship Justice Novisi Afua Aryene founded the churches guilty as charged and duly slapped them with fines.

After thorough investigations the court concluded that the plaintiff’s complaints of loud singing, clapping and drumming accompanied by electronic musical instruments and loud prayers both day and night amounted to nuisance.

The accused churches have been ordered to pay Ghc20,000 and a cost of Ghc10,000 to the plaintiffs, Mrs Patricia Bannerman and Dr Elizabeth Masopeh.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Abokobi, the municipal area of the churches was not left to go free as the court found him guilty of reckless disregard of interest and right of the plaintiffs for the quiet enjoyment of their properties.
