The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has introduced a new kind of greeting aside the traditional greeting of shaking hands.
The move comes on the back of efforts and measures by various states and governments across the world to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus.
The Vice President today, Tuesday, March 10, 2020 introduced the new greeting when he used his elbow to touch that of the Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Telecoms, Ing. Ken Ashigbey at the maiden edition of the Mobile Technology for Development (MT4D) Conference in Accra.
BestNewsGH.com can report that the ‘elbow greeting’ introduced by the Vice President is akin to the ‘’foot greeting’’ introduced by Tanzanian President, John Magufuli about a week ago, when he was seen using his foot to touch that of an opposition politician in that country as a sign of greeting.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 63rd Independence Day Celebrations recently, advised against handshakes as a way of preventing the virus from spreading.
He also admonished the generality of the Ghanaian people to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze.
The introduction of the ‘elbow greeting’ by the Vice President which has since gone viral on social media, comes in handy and will henceforth prove to be the alternative to shaking hands, particularly in an environment where greeting is deemed serious culturally and morally.
