Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the security agencies led by the Ghana Police Service, are currently on a man hunt for the hidden faces behind the activities of the Trans Volta Togoland secessionists who took the law into their own hands last Friday, the 25th of September 2020, when they block roads that lead to parts of the Volta Region from the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
The Minister made this know when he addressed a press conference at the Information Ministry, today the 27th of September 2020.
According to the Information Minister, Government has put in place adequate measures to deal swiftly with the development and the security agencies are on top of the development.
“The events of Friday morning have been as at now, contained by the security agencies. Efforts are also underway to contain outstanding threats from this group” the Information Minister said.
“While the security agencies maintain a presence to avert any further developments, it will also be important in the coming days to provide more education for example, on the false bases for which the persons who are leading these exercises, sought to mobilize support. Key actors who have been identified as being responsible for these events are also on the watch list of the security agencies and are actually wanted at this point in time. In the coming days, the security agencies would be publishing their photographs and the identities of some of these persons they are on a man hunt for” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister added.
GLOBAL COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS
On the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Oppong Nkrumah observed that Government has taken note of the new developing trends in parts of Europe and the rest of the world, particularly, from countries were Ghana has flights coming in to its shores since the country’s airports were opened.
He reiterated the commitment of government to ensure strict observation of all laid down protocols for in bound air traffic to Ghana as well as the two-tier testing approach for everyone traveling to Ghana.
“We will continue to observe the development in these countries and these developments will inform whether or not Ghana will consider some travel restrictions from these countries” the Information Minister stated.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
The Information Minister further noted that even though the country’s active cases as at today the 27th of September 2020, stands at four hundred and seventy-seven (477), even with one hundred and thirty-one (131) new cases, there is the need for the Ghanaian people to continue to observe all COVID-19 prevention protocols put in place by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
“We continue to encourage that people observe the preventive etiquettes so that they do add to these numbers so that we can reduce our active case count to zero” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said.
