The leadership of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Doctors Association has suspended its industrial strike following a series of engagements with members and management of the facility.
After deliberations on the hospital accommodation crises, the doctors entrusted management, the Regional Coordinating Council and the Lands Commission to prevent the alleged private developer from taking possession of their bungalows.
This paves the way for the doctors at KATH to resume work on Friday, March 15.
This comes after doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Wednesday, March 13, laid down their tools over accommodation issues.
As of 9 am, the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the health facility was inundated with patients who had trooped in to seek health care.
Hundreds were left stranded as nurses on duty took time to explain to patients and family members why they were not being attended to.
But speaking to JoyNews, the President of the KATH Doctors Association, Michael Leat, said that after the meeting, his outfit resolved to stop looking for accommodation.
He emphasised that the Association now have assurance from the KATH management and stakeholders that there is no need for them to go out looking for accommodation.
“After meeting with our stakeholders, they’ve promised to help us find accommodation so we see no reason why we should go back to look for accommodation by ourselves. So our management, together with the other stakeholders will do that for us,” he said.
Mr Leat maintained that members will not be harassed as promised by the management and stakeholders.
“We believe in them so there’s no cause for alarm. Our members also have agreed to what management and other stakeholders have said so we are happy, both sides, management and the staff and our stakeholders are happy.”
