Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region Sam Gyata George says the party’s founder, former president Jerry John Rawlings has no moral right to chastise former president John Mahama for leveraging his friendship to raise money for purposes of filing his nomination as an aspirant for the party’s presidential candidate position.
According to him, Mr. Rawlings told the generality of the Ghanaian people when he was questioned how he was catering for the education of his children abroad that his friends were those paying for their school fees.
Again he said the former president alluded to the fact that late Nigerian Head of State General Sani Abacha gave him 2 million dollars to support his political campaign when he was contesting the presidency, denying reports that he rather received 5 million dollars.
These alone according to Mr. Sam George disqualifies Mr. Rawlings from questioning the stance of the leadership of the party in pegging the filing fees and nomination forms at 420 thousand Ghana cedis.
Mr. Rawlings has criticized the party’s leadership for coming up with such a huge figure and said it was a departure from the core values and tenets of the NDC.
