Ghana’s Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, on Tuesday February 12, 2019 commissioned a Rapid Housing Technology in Accra.
Commissioning a 3-bedroom house model constructed within 11 days using the Rapid Housing Technology, Hon. Atta Akyea, said the technology is a game changer in the housing industry in Ghana which will help wipe out the huge housing deficit confronting the country within a short period.
The technology, (polystyrene concrete panels) is being developed and provided by SOLIN Energy Company Limited, a globally active solar energy solutions and innovative Affordable Housing system provider from Hungary.
According to the Minister, modern era construction of houses should not take a longer time to complete and that a technology that will bring a paradigm shift in housing delivery is imperative for the country’s development.
He stated that housing is a pure national and social security issue, saying ‘you cannot have a very sane society if the people who make up the society do not have a good place of abode’.
Hon. Atta Akyea, disclosed that Ghana will collaborate with the Hungarian Government to roll out Affordable Housing across the country using the Rapid Housing Technology.
“We are going to build flats using the technology, the Government of President Akufo Addo has a policy to erect a minimum of four flats in every constituency headquarters in Ghana”, he added.
The Minister revealed that the new technology will make use of materials which can be sourced in Ghana, thereby reducing the construction cost and providing employment and training for Ghanaians across the country.
Touching on Mortgage, Hon. Atta Akyea indicated that measures are being put in place to ensure a credible mortgage system, so that Ghanaians will be able to access housing financing using 30 percent of their salary to own a house within a space of about 15 or 20 years.
The Hon. Minister, commended Syno-Africa and SOLIN, for such an innovative technology aimed at boosting housing delivery in Ghana.
On his part, the Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Andrάs Szabό, said the bilateral relationship between Ghana and Hungary would serve as a tool to drive Ghana’s development in the various sectors particularly Energy, Water, Housing, Security and Information Technology.
He said the Hungarian Government in the last two and half years has completed projects in the Energy, Water and Housing sectors including the Kumasi water treatment plant.
