The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of leading not only NDC members astray, but the generality of the Ghanaian people and the international community as well, with misinformation and propaganda.
National Communications Director of the NPP, Buabeng Asamoah addressing a press conference in reaction to the NDC’s ‘moment of truth’ press conference said the NDC is misleading the world with false information on how the raging Menzgold saga degenerated into what it is currently.
According to the NPP, the erstwhile NDC administration was grossly laxed in its handling of the company and that it failed in its regulatory mandate even when there was every indication that the company had contravened the laws regarding its operations.
Mr. Buabeng Asamoah opined that it took the current administration under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to investigate the company’s operations including embarking on 3 different mystery shoppings of gold purchases from the company, using state agencies all in an effort to appreciate its workings.
According to him, government through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) began to engage the company after the findings of the mystery shopping were put together and conclusions pointing to the fact that the company’s operations contravened the law.
He said accusations that government deliberately collapsed the company cannot be true because the company was given every opportunity to legalise its operations by acquiring the right licenses that will help legitimize its operations to no avail, adding that it is therefore preposterous for the NDC to heap the blame for the current crisis on government.
‘’The entire NDC leadership is leading not only people who believe in the NDC astray, but Ghana and the international community on a disgraceful path of misinformation and propaganda which belongs to yesteryears’’ he averred.
